Story :

NWhen a video goes viral on Valentine day, it leads Simhachalam (Nawazuddin) to Peta aka Kaali (Rajinikanth). Who is Simhachalam and why is he after Peta?

Superstar Rajinikanth is in sensational form in Peta. It is a one-man show by him from start to the end. He is energetic, stylish and full of attitude and swag. It is dream stuff for any fan.

Trisha and Simran have limited screen time and they have done well in whatever little they have been given.

Vijay Sethupathy and Nawazuddin Siddique are a delight on screen. Their mere presence alone adds weight to the proceedings. Bobby Simha is decent in a small role. The rest of the cast gets small bits and pieces work to do which nonetheless aids the narrative.

Highlights :

Karthik Subbaraj Direction

First Half

Drawbacks :

Loses momentum in second half

Peta is a fairly simple and straight forward story coming from Karthik Subbaraj. However, he has added enough little turns to make the proceedings interesting.

The first and foremost thing that Karthik. Subbaraj does well is presenting Rajinikanth in his mass glory. The introduction was one of the best in years and so was the climax. Leaving those aside the first half was in a universally appealing manner. It is likely to connect with everyone.

There is a small stutter in the second half. The story moves on a predictable beaten to death path. But, once past those few sequences, things are back on track in the pre-climax and climax. The twist in the climax is sure to take everyone by surprise. Overall, Peta is an out and out entertaining Rajinikanth film after a while that is purely running on him rather than other spectacles.

The music by Anirudh is awesome, especially the BGM. The cinematography by Thiru is superb. The editing is sharp and we never feel the length. The production values are top notch. Ashok Vallabhaneni who released the film in Telugu ensured for quality dubbing.

Bottom-line: One Man Show

Rating: 3.25/5
