Deva (Sharwanand) is a gangster who fights for people. What happens when he objects to a land deal worth crores for the construction of an airport is the basic plot of the movie. Parallel to the gangster turn is his raise from an ordinary guy fighting for the right cause, and also a love story with an ordinary girl next door. What happens when Deva\u2019s behaviour irks a prominent politician is another track. How these two merge into one narrative at the end is the overall story?<\/p>\n

Performances:<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Sharwanand is extraordinary in the role of a gangster. The actor, who has been showing variation in each movie back to back, is seen in a fresh new avatar. Not only the looks, but even the body language is also very aggressive and different from his usual. All his scenes in the first half where he is showcased as a smuggler and is seen in confrontation with villain are fantastic body language-wise. The attitude is visible. Similarly, the love story part highlights his soft side. All in all, it is a neat package.<\/p>\n

Kalyani Priyadarshan has a useful role in a commercial film that is centered on the hero. She is very critical to the proceedings and has done a fair job with her part. Her scenes with hero have come out well and are entertaining.<\/p>\n

Kajal doesn\u2019t have much to do other than playing a catalyst in a crucial sequence. She is mostly on the run with the hero who is under attack. Kajal gets to portray a character with limited screen time, but she makes sure to stand out.<\/p>\n

Murali Sharma, Brahmaji, Ajay and others do their jobs adequately and fill the screens with their reliable jobs.<\/p>\n

Ranarangam is a gangster genre movie where director Sudheer Varma explores the predictable territory in a unique set up. The Vizag and Spain backdrops are well-chosen and added to the imagery of the film.<\/p>\n

The first half has multiple tracks running simultaneously. There is the raise of the hero to a gangster leader figure, then he is also a lover initially, and parent later. The various shades and moments are juxtaposed with each other in a more straightforward non-linear narrative.<\/p>\n

After an unexpected interval bang, director Sudheer Varma ups the ante in the second half with different threats and raising alarms. These are shown conclusively without dragging down the narrative. Overall, Ranarangam is shot in a terrific manner using all the updated gangster tropes, and clich\u00e9s. It can be easily seen once.<\/p>\n

The background score by Prashanth Pillai is exemplary. It heightens the crucial moments in a very compact way. The cinematography by Divakar Mani and editing by Naveen Nooli are lovely. The locales look beautiful, and the visuals bear a strong current age quality, The producer of the movie, Suryadevara Naga Vamshi, has done an excellent job in backing a different story. The director has shown his worth by delivering.<\/p>\n

Bottom line:<\/span> A Stylish Gangster Drama<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
