Movie Mogul AV Meiyappan The doyen of the film industry in India is Av.Meiyappan. His 113  the birth anniversary falls today. Till now AVM has produced 175 films.  After \u201cAyen\u201d and \u201cSivaji\u201d, they are expecting some changes in producing films. When it comes they will also start producing films. 5  chief ministers have acted in their production. They are Arignyar Anna,  who wrote the story and dialogue for the film \u201cOre Iravu\u201d, Kalaingar  Karunanidhi<\/a> who wrote the dialogue for \u201cPrasakthi\u201d, which happens to be the first film of legend Sivaji Ganesan, Purachi thalaivar MGR, who was the hero in the movie \u201cAnbe Vaa\u201d, N.T.Rama Rao, who has acted in four films like \u201cBhoo Kailash\u201d, Naathi Aada, Jenmame\u201d, \u201cRamu\u201d,  Chitti Selalu\u201d, Purachi thalavi J. Jayalalitha, who was the heroine in three of films like \u201cAnathai Anandan\u201d, \u201cEnaga Mama\u201d, \u201cMajor  Chandrakanth\u201d.  AVM<\/a> studied up to 8 standards only. But he used to read English very well. For this, he used \u2018The Hindu\u2019 newspaper. If he did not know the meaning for a word, he would mark that word and immediately see a  dictionary and know the meaning of the word. He learned English through \u2018The Hindu\u2019. He was the first to produce a dubbing film in the country. That is \u201cHarishchandra\u201d, which was dubbed from Kannada to  Tamil. He was also the first to introduce playback singing in the film  \u201cNandakumar\u201d. In this film, he introduced Lalitha Ventaraman as playback artiste, who sang a song for the heroine of the film. Mahatma Gandhi saw only one film in his lifetime. That film was \u201cRam Rajya\u201d. He bought the film and dubbed that into Tamil and released it.  He was a perfectionist. If he does not like one-shot or a scene, he would immediately ask the director to reshoot it. Like that he was also punctual. If shooting is to start at 7 in the morning, all the artists and technicians must assemble in the spot of the shooting at 6 in the morning. The artist must be ready with make-up at that time.<\/p>\n

\nHe is for his workers. Whoever worked in his studio in Karikudi was brought to Chennai and given work. He gave a cycle to all the workers to come to the studio. He also gave houses to them and made AVM Nagar and AVM colony for them to live happily. He also started a shop, where they can get groceries cheap and also started a high school named AVICII school, which is still running with pride. He took care of his workers and started AVM clinic, Mena’s marriage hall, and also insured them with insurance. Today also AVM studio has workers, who worked through three generations.<\/p>\n

Movie Mogul AV Meiyappan was fond of Tamil language and for spreading it he used to give his  AVM Rajeswari marriage hall free of charge to all the functions of  Kamban Kazghagam, Gandhi -Vallalar Association and Ilakiya  Chinthanai. His wife Rajeswari Ammal was with him in all his endeavors. To thank her he named the marriage hall built by him after her as AVM Rajeswari Marriage hall. Late Ma.Po.Si. would say, \u201clike Taj  Mahal, AVM has built this marriage hall in his wife name\u201d.  Popular cine playback singer P.Susheela would always say she is singing with perfect diction in Tamil, because of the learning given in AVM.<\/p>\n

\nAVM is a film university. Meiyappa Chettiar is always its Chancellor. To name a few those who came with flying colors in direction are  M.V.Raman, K.Shankar, P.Neelakandan, Bhim Singh,  A.C.Thirulokchander, Sp. Muthuraman, Rama Narayanan, and  Rajasekar. In actors T.R.Mahalingam, Sivaji Ganesan, Kannada hero Raj. Kumar, S.S.R., Kamal Haasan, V.K.Ramaswamy, Sivakumar. In heroines, it is Vyjayanthimala, Kumari Rukmani, Vijayakumar, Sachu, Kutti Padmini.  The logo of AVM is ever popular. Once Aringar Anna was in North India and saw one film in a theatre. That day AVM film was running in that theatre. When the logo was shown in the theatre the audience reaction was huge. He told this to his son Mr.M.Saravanan that he was happy to see the response from the North Indian people to AVM logo. Once showing the logo, the great AVM himself said to his sons, \u201cthese not mere three letters, it’s my 50 years of hard work with at most sincerity. If you take it higher and higher you will prosper in your life\u201d.<\/p>\n

We hope that AVM banner would soon produce 176 films for the people to enjoy.
