Producer Sravanthi Ravi Kishore and writer\u2013director Trivikram Srinivas reminisce during the re-release of Nuvvu Naaku Nachav<\/span><\/p>\n

It has been 25 years since the release of Nuvvu Naaku Nachav, produced by Sravanthi Ravi Kishore under Sri Sravanthi Movies, directed by K. Vijayabhaskar, starring Victory Venkatesh and Aarthi Agarwal. Trivikram Srinivas provided the story and dialogues, while Koti composed the music. The film, which became a cult classic, is being re-released on January 1 as a New Year special. On this occasion, producer Sravanthi Ravi Kishore and writer\u2013director Trivikram shared memories of the film and its journey.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nRevisiting the wonderful memories and the incredible journey of Nuvvu Naaku Nachav after so many years makes me very happy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nMe too.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nYou used to come to the shooting sets quite often, right?<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nI was writing Nuvve Kavali and Chirunavvutho simultaneously, so I couldn\u2019t visit those sets much. I went to Nuvve Kavali during the \u201cShukriya\u201d song shoot and the climax. But I was present for most of Nuvvu Naaku Nachav shoots. We even went to New Zealand together. I was there during dubbing as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nYou were supposed to direct Nuvve Nuvve next, right?<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nYes. That\u2019s why I was involved in everything for Nuvvu Naaku Nachav.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nBack then, you\u2019d write a script version and narrate the dialogue version to the director and producer. We didn\u2019t just hear what you wrote\u2014we saw it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nThere was another room next to my writing room. We all used to sit there together.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nWe couldn\u2019t imagine anyone other than Prakash Raj for the heroine\u2019s father. Once you narrated the dialogues with diction, it was fixed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nYes. Those 22 scenes\u2014I remember them clearly. The house set was in Nankramguda. On the first day Prakash Raj came to the set, he didn\u2019t know Telugu then. He wrote all his scenes and dialogues in Kannada.<\/span>
\nWhen Suhasini garu entered and asked, \u201cIs he a good man or a bad man?\u201d, you replied, \u201cManiratnam!\u201d (laughs).<\/span>
\nWhat I wrote was, \u201cGood man or bad man? A husband is just that.\u201d But you said, \u201cGood man or bad man? Maniratnam.\u201d I burst out laughing and had to step outside.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nIt was an amazing journey. No matter how much we talk about Sirivennala Seetharama Sastry garu, it\u2019s never enough.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nI clearly remember\u2014you called me from Madras about the song O Navvu Chalu. \u201cCan anyone see night in broad daylight?\u201d\u2014those lines.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nThat\u2019s how he wrote everything. We had to shoot the song in Ooty. We had just returned from New Zealand and were working non-stop. Shankar Mahadevan was at Koti\u2019s studio. I couldn\u2019t pressure anyone. We didn\u2019t want just a song\u2014we wanted a good song.<\/span>
\nThen suddenly\u2014\u201cWait! The song is here!\u201d\u2014and we rushed in the car. He wrote the pallavi while traveling. That\u2019s why the pallavi isn\u2019t fully seen in his files.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nYes\u2014\u201cThose curls stuck in the darkness\u2026\u201d He later completed it as \u201cWill you die if I don\u2019t show those curls?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nThe best part is\u2014we followed every single line he wrote. He never just brought one line and called it a song.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nEven one line would excite us\u2014one line per day! (laughs)<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nHe\u2019d write many options and place them there.<\/span>
\n\u201cIsn\u2019t \u2018that braid\u2019 good?\u201d<\/span>
\n\u201cIsn\u2019t \u2018a kite in the sky\u2019 good?\u201d<\/span>
\nWe\u2019d say, \u201cThe song is done!\u201d<\/span>
\nHe completed the first stanza first, then the pallavi.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nThis is all so nostalgic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nWhen Yogeshwar Sharma brought those papers, knowing Sastry garu had held them\u2014it made me emotional. He left us too early.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nHe delivered songs late\u2014but left this world early.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nVenkatesh\u2019s contribution is huge. As an artist, he was extraordinary.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nAfter the dialogue version was ready, he did two or three readings. He immersed himself completely.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nOn the last day, we shot the train travel scene\u2014from Hyderabad to Nalgonda and back.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nSo the first scene was shot last?<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nYes. He said, \u201cIs it over already, Kishore?\u201d<\/span>
\nWe shot for 85 days. The first cut was 3 hours 14 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nYou brought it down to 3 hours? (laughs)<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nReleased at 3 hours 9 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nSuhasini\u2019s scenes created controversy on release.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nYou weren\u2019t scared at all. I suggested cutting them. You said, \u201cLet it run for a week.\u201d<\/span>
\nLandlines those days\u2014calls at 11 or 11:30 at night, praising every dialogue.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nYou did the same when I wrote good dialogues\u2014\u201cTruth should be seen in the eyes,\u201d \u201cMother\u2019s mango pickle,\u201d and so on.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nIt\u2019s been 25 years now.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\n24 or 25?<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nSilver Jubilee was on September 6.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nThis film is a stress-buster for many.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nDuring a preview for Ramanaidu garu\u2019s family, Venkatesh\u2019s wife said:<\/span>
\n\u201cJust like we talk about Gundamma Katha and Missamma today, future generations will talk about this film.\u201d<\/span>
\nI didn\u2019t believe it then. Today, everyone says the same.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nEven now, when I say I produced this film, people look at me with respect. Even a 9-year-old watches it repeatedly. That gives me immense satisfaction.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nSome films bring money. Some bring fame.<\/span>
\nOnly a few bring respect.<\/span>
\nThis is one of those films.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore:<\/span>
\nThat respect still exists today.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trivikram:<\/span>
\nThis film gave us lasting relationships and unforgettable memories.<\/span><\/p>\n
