The new web series with same title takes the core idea of unemployment and gives it a contemporary twist, focusing on engineering graduates battling joblessness, low salaries, family pressure and uncertain futures. Directed by Neelagiri Mamilla, the series stars Vikas Vasishta, Geeth Saini and Rajesh Khanna in key roles. Streaming on Aha, the series mixes social satire, comedy and emotion to tell a relatable youth story.

Plot

Ramesh (Vikas Vasishta), Aruna (Geet Sayini) and Akshay (Rajesh Khanna) are three engineering friends living in a rented room in Hyderabad. Despite completing their B.Tech, all three struggle with career related problems. Ramesh dreams of starting his own business but lacks family support. Akshay has a job but earns little and remains unhappy with his work. Aruna wants to become financially independent and support her family, but an unexpected job loss puts her in a difficult position. Adding to their problems are rent pressure and family expectations.

Things become more complicated when Aruna’s father arrives and decides to take her home and arrange her marriage. How the three friends face these challenges and find a way forward forms the heart of the series. The opening episodes are comedy driven, while the later portion adds stronger emotional depth.

Performances

Vikas Vasishta delivers a convincing performance as Ramesh. He captures the frustration of an ambitious youngster who has ideas but lacks the resources to execute them. His performance feels natural in both comic and emotional scenes.

Geet Sayini is particularly effective as Aruna. Her character carries the emotional responsibility of balancing career ambitions with family expectations. Saini handles these conflicts with maturity and gives the character enough vulnerability and strength to connect with the audience.

Rajesh Khanna brings good energy to Akshay. His character represents another side of the employment crisis, having a job but still struggling because of inadequate pay and dissatisfaction. His chemistry with the other two leads works well and strengthens the friendship angle.

Ramesh Eeravena, as Bittu Bhai, provides entertaining comic relief with his timing and lively screen presence. The supporting cast also fits naturally into the grounded setting.

Highlights

Natural Performances

Youthful Humour

Emotional Moments

Real Locations

Drawbacks

Familiar Concept

Minor Lags

Analysis

The initial episodes succeeds through friendship, comedy and relatable situations surrounding unemployed engineering graduates. The rented room setting generates several entertaining moments while establishing the characters effectively. The later episodes becomes more emotional as family pressure, job loss and uncertainty take centre stage. The transition works because the audience has already connected with the protagonists. Although unemployment is a familiar subject in Telugu content, the contemporary IT generation setting gives it reasonable relevance.

Technically, the series benefits from its real Hyderabad locations and grounded visual treatment. The cinematography by Haricharan suits the story, while Vamsikanth’s background score supports the changing moods. Editing by Ganesh is mostly neat, although a few scenes could have been trimmed. Some double meaning dialogues may not work for everyone, but they do not dominate the narrative. The smart farming thread adds an encouraging new dimension. Overall, Aakali Rajyam 2026 is not a revolutionary take on unemployment, but its youthful presentation, natural performances, humour and emotional core make it a decent and relatable OTT watch.

Rating: 3.25/5

Bottom-line: A Relatable Youthful Take On Unemployment, Friendship And Hope

Aakali Rajyam 2026 Web Series Review Web Series: Aakali Rajyam OTT Platform: Aha Cast: Vikas Vasishta, Rajesh Khanna, Geet Sayini and Others Editor: Ganesh Kommarapu Music: Vamsikanth Rekhana DOP: Haricharan K Producers: Padmini Raja Velu, Raja Velu Director: Neelagiri Mamilla The title Aakali Rajyam immediately brings back memories of the 1980 classic starring Kamal Haasan.
