The story revolves around Kalyan (Sree Vishnu), a cheerful youngster who runs a theatre on lease in a small town. His life is simple until he falls head over heels for Sitara (Mahima Nambiar), a beautiful girl from Odisha. Just when he is about to express his love, a series of startling developments pushes him to take a shocking and unexpected decision that connects him to naxals, politics and police.
What is this decision? How is it connected to his loving mother Saraswathamma (Radhika Sarathkumar), his loyal friend Satti Babu (Satya), Sitara’s father (Muralidhar Goud), a cunning Minister (Srikanth Iyengar), the intense IPS officer George Kutti (Shine Tom Chacko), police officer Appalanaidu (Brahmaji), Pallam Raju (Prabhas Seenu), Master (Sai Chand), Shankaranna (Shatru), Biswal (Upendra Limaye) and ACP Pradyumn (Vennela Kishore)? Analysis:

The first half of Comrade Kalyan is a fun filled joyride. Director Janakiram Marella establishes Kalyan’s world, his theatre life and his cute love story with Sitara in a light hearted manner. The romantic track, filled with witty dialogues and situational comedy, keeps the audience engaged. The second half takes a surprising turn as the naxal angle and political drama kicks in. The director smartly mixes comedy with serious moments, and the pre-climax and climax bring in some intense and emotional scenes that give the story a satisfying closure. The narrative never gets too heavy and maintains its entertaining nature throughout.

On the technical front, Vijay Bulganin’s music is a plus, with a couple of songs looking good on screen and the background score supporting the comedic and serious mood shifts. Sai Sriram’s cinematography captures the 90s Andhra backdrop beautifully and keeps the visuals vibrant. The editing by Chota K Prasad keeps the pace lively, and the dialogues, though laced with double meaning fun, are entertaining for the target audience. The production values are decent. Overall, Comrade Kalyan is a time pass entertainer that works because of Sree Vishnu’s charm and its unique attempt to blend comedy with a naxal backdrop. A good watch for family audiences.
