ANR Centenary In 31 Cities. The Indian Government Will Celebrate The Occasion At the Goa International Film Festival. Chiranjeevi Will Be Honoured With ANR Award This Year, Amitabh Will Present It: King Akkineni Nagarjuna
On the occasion of the centenary celebration of the legendary actor and Padma Bhushan recipient Akkineni Nageswara Rao, the Film Heritage Foundation, in collaboration with NFDC and the National Film Archive of India, is organizing the ‘ANR 100 – King of the Silver Screen’ Film Festival. The festival grandly opened with the screening of ANR’s iconic film, Devadasu, in the presence of fans and family. The Indian government is set to celebrate ANR’s centenary at the Goa International Film Festival.
This film festival will showcase landmark ANR films across the country, including Missamma, Maya Bazaar, Bharya Bharthalu, Gundamma Katha, Doctor Chakravarthy, Sudigundalu, Prem Nagar, Prema Abhishekam, and Manam. The Film Heritage Foundation and Annapurna Studios have taken the initiative to restore these ten masterpiece films, allowing audiences to enjoy these classics in 4K quality.
During the press meet, King Nagarjuna expressed, “Greetings to everyone. My father taught us to embrace life with a smile, which is why we smile whenever we think of him. I want to thank Shivendra. They are going to screen ‘Devadasu’ along with other films, and the black-and-white prints are wonderful. The audience will have a fantastic experience. This festival is being held in 31 cities, and it brings me joy to hear from Shivendra that we’re getting a fantastic response in the North.
The Goa International Film Festival will have a chapter dedicated to my father’s name, and I’m very happy about that. It brings me great joy to release my father’s stamp on this centenary day. Thank you to everyone who attended this celebration. Senior fans of my father in both Telugu states have organized noble initiatives like blood donation and food distribution in honor of this centenary. A heartfelt thank you to them. Your love and support are unforgettable.
We are presenting the ANR Award every two years, and this year we have decided to honor Chiranjeevi with the award. When I told him, he was very emotional and expressed his happiness at receiving it during ANR’s centenary year. He mentioned there’s no greater honor than this. Amitabh Bachchan will present the award. We will hold this function on October 28. Thank you all.”
Murali Mohan said, “I express my gratitude to the Akkineni family for allowing me to participate in the centenary celebrations. I have been a fan of Akkineni since childhood, and it is a privilege to act alongside him. Nageswara Rao is a great artist with immense dedication. I consider it a great fortune to have acted in the first film produced under his banner. He brought the film industry to Hyderabad, and his legacy continues with us. Thank you, everyone.”
Venkat Akkineni remarked, “On my father’s centenary, the government has released a postal stamp. The photograph captures all of my father’s traits. Thank you for releasing this stamp. Cabinet Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Chandrashekar planned this release for today. I am very grateful to them.”
Shivendra Singh Dungarpur stated, “I thank Nagarjuna and the Akkineni family for this incredible opportunity. We are celebrating this festival in 31 cities across the country in 60 theatres. It’s a historic day. Over the next three days, audiences will have the chance to watch ten classic films of Akkineni. It is our collective responsibility to preserve this heritage.”
Director K Raghavendra Rao commented, “The Akkineni and Kovalamudi families are not separate. Nageswara Rao, my father, Nagarjuna, and I have shared this journey together. Nageswara Rao established Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad, providing employment to many. He has given us countless classic films like ‘Devadasu,’ ‘Kaalidaas,’ and ‘Vipranarayana.’ The incredible performances in those films are unforgettable. Nageswara Rao will always be with us. I consider myself fortunate to have worked alongside my father and son in films. Nageswara Rao is with us wherever he is.”
The celebration was grand, attended by Akkineni Naga Chaitanya, Akkineni Akhil, Sumanth, Sushanth, Amala Akkineni, Naga Suseela, Supriya Yarlagadda, and other members of the Akkineni family.
The Akkineni family began the centenary celebrations by honoring ANR with a heartfelt tribute at his statue. They then generously provided food for nearly 600 fans and gifted them clothes.
