Young and talented actor Rag Mayur who won the hearts of all with his hilarious timing and natural performance in films like Cinema Bandi, is now coming as a solo hero with Anumana Pakshi. The film generated good curiosity as it is helmed by Vimal Krishna, who delivered the blockbuster DJ Tillu. The film’s fun filled teaser, quirky title, and the promise of a comedy thriller set in the beautiful locales of Kashmir increased the expectations. With an ensemble cast and intriguing premise, Anumana Pakshi hit the theatres today, September 25.
Plot:
Anumana Pakshi story revolves around a very unique and relatable concept, suspicion. Sunny (Rag Mayur) is a youngster who is suspicious about everything and anything around him, without any reason. His overthinking nature lands him in hilarious situations and also impacts the lives of people around him.
He tries his best to avoid his friend Varma (Prince Cecil) but destiny brings them together along with their friend Bharath (Ananya Akula) on an unexpected trip to Kashmir to meet his friend Ananth (Charith). What starts as a casual trip takes a thrilling turn when they cross paths with a beautiful girl Kanya (Merin Philip), her father Brahmos (Brahmaji), a sharp SI Vasu (Ajay) and his wife Sujata (Raasi). How Sunny’s suspicion becomes his biggest strength in solving the mystery and where this crazy journey leads to forms the rest of the entertaining narrative of Anumana Pakshi.
Performances:
The heart and soul of Anumana Pakshi is undoubtedly Rag Mayur. This is his first film as a full fledged solo lead and he delivers a performance that is nothing short of brilliant. Rag Mayur is a natural performer and he proves it once again with his impeccable comic timing, innocent expressions, and effortless dialogue delivery. He makes the character of Sunny extremely lovable and relatable. He carries the entire film on his shoulders and his comedy works big time.
Merin Philip makes a charming debut as Kanya. She looks beautiful on screen and brings a refreshing presence. She handles her role with grace and shares a good chemistry with Rag Mayur. Prince Cecil as Varma is excellent and provides superb support with his comic timing. His combination scenes with Rag Mayur are a laugh riot.
Ajay as SI Vasu gets a meaty role after a long time and he is terrific. He brings intensity and humor in equal measure. Brahmaji as Brahmos is in his elements and entertains with his trademark dialogue delivery. Raasi as Sujata is lovely and adds emotional weight. Charith and Ananya Akula as friends are perfect and their friendship track is highly enjoyable and natural.

Analysis:
The first half of Anumana Pakshi is a complete fun ride. Director Vimal Krishna sets up the character of Sunny in a very interesting and relatable manner. His suspicious nature is established through many hilarious sequences that connect instantly with today’s overthinking generation. The comedy is fresh, the dialogues are witty, and the friendship bonding between Rag Mayur, Prince Cecil and Ananya Akula is established beautifully. The interval block where the story shifts to Kashmir is handled brilliantly and raises the curiosity. The second half takes an exciting turn as the film transforms from a comedy into a comedy thriller. The director smartly uses Sunny’s suspicion to unravel the mystery surrounding Kanya and her family. The Kashmir backdrop adds immense value to the narration and the suspense is maintained till the end. The way all the characters including Ajay, Brahmaji and Raasi get interconnected in the second half is written with cleverness. Vimal Krishna ensures that the humor never leaves the narrative even while the thriller element progresses.
On the technical front, the film is impressive. Sunil Kumar Nama’s cinematography is a major asset. He captures the breathtaking beauty of Kashmir in a stunning manner and also the Hyderabad portions with vibrant colors. Sricharan Pakala’s music is youthful and energetic with catchy songs, and his background score perfectly complements the fun and thriller mood. Chota K Prasad’s editing is crisp and keeps the film racy without any unnecessary drag. Dialogues are witty, contemporary and highly entertaining, especially the ones written for Rag Mayur’s character. Production values are solid and rich. The film feels slightly stretched here and there and also the twists could have been handled well. Overall, Anumana Pakshi is a refreshing and highly entertaining comedy thriller that works big time due to Rag Mayur’s outstanding performance and Vimal Krishna’s quirky writing.
