Story

Suriya plays a robust village youngster and a lawyer by profession. He has loving parents played by Sathyaraj & Saranya Ponvannan and eventually falls for Priyanka Mohan. The film’s core story is about how Suriya takes down Vinay Rai and his gang of notorious youngsters who trap young girls and destroy their lives by making sex videos of them and leaking them on the internet. The story is based on the Pollachi issue which rocked Tamil Nadu a few years back. Suriya tries the legal route initially but once that fails, he takes matters into his own hands!

Performances

Suriya is energy personified and he gets the ideal mass film from director Pandiraj to score big at the boxoffice again. After his classy OTT blockbusters Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim, Suriya plays to the gallery in ET.

Priyanka Mohan scores big in one key emotional sequence in the 2nd half. It’s nice to see that the heroine is not just there for the fun and romance scenes. Sathyaraj, Saranya Ponvannan, Soori play their parts. Vinay is a one-note villain and he is okay. Ilavarasu impresses in his scenes, playing Priyanka’s helpless father.

Analysis

ET works well as a hero vehicle and also gets its emotional quotient right. Pandiraj again sticks to the rural milieu that he is comfortable operating in. He successfully manages a mass hero film touching upon a serious social crime. It’s refreshing to see Suriya get back to the mass genre with a serious social issue to add more weight to the film. The film’s story revolving around women’s safety and the sexual crimes that they face, will make a strong connect with the viewer. Ladies and family audiences should ideally lap up ET.

Composer Imman is a pillar of support with his background score for the hero elevation moments as well as the key emotional scenes. Cinematographer Rathnavelu gives ET a slick classy look which such rural films usually don’t have. Production values by Sun Pictures are grand.

At a runtime of 2 hours 30 minutes, ET succeeds in engaging the audience for the most part. Given that it’s a family-friendly film with the core story revolving around women’s safety, it’s an apt film for the Women’s Day mood this week.

Rating: 3.25/5

Bottom Line: ET Is Emotionally Charged With Explosive Suriya !!
