PERFORMANCES:

Varun Tej is a solid anchor on which the film rests. He is aggressive in a passive sort of way and it doesn’t get reflected most of the time. It is common in Sekhar Kammula films. In the second half of the movie Varun Tej has many shades with lots of emotions, he nails all of them.

Sai Pallavi has a dream debut in Telugu as a Sekhar Kammula heroine. Few directors can boast of such tag and Sekhar Kammula is sure one of them. He has given a wonderful character to Sai Pallavi and she it perfectly, from the accent to the body language and emotions. After Premam she has got another once in a lifetime sort of character. The rest of the artists in the movie are suitable for the characters they have been taken for. Those are small parts but memorable nonetheless.

ANALYSIS:

Fidaa is a bread and butter kind of film from Sekhar Kammula which he hasn’t done in few years. Once again he takes a simple love story and weaves it with magical moments that stays with us long after the movie has finished. This sort of quality is missing in the movies coming today and that’s what makes Fidaa and Sekhar Kammula special more than anything else.

The first half of the movie is a breeze family entertainer with lots of love and romance. It is the kind of emotion that is real and yet not so raw to put off the viewer while watching. It is a immensely immersive experience with the commercial format that rarely happens.

There is a little problem in the second half when things almost turn silly and get repetitive after a point. The climax once again covers all the flaws and makes one leave the theater with a huge smile plastered on the face.

The music along with background score is a big plus for the movie. It keeps the movie alive even in the dull moments. The cinematography is excellent and so is the editing. Dialogues are superb. Dil Raju must be appreciated for backing a project like Fidaa wholeheartedly.

Bottom-line: A Classic Family Entertainer

Rating: 3.5 / 5
