Gaayapadda Simham brings actor-director Tharun Bhascker back to the screen, this time as the lead in a comedy drama. The film marks the directorial debut of Kashyap Sreenivas and carries Tharun’s brand of offbeat storytelling. Known for Pelli Choopulu and Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi, Tharun choosing a wacky plotline immediately raised interest. The film released on 1 May 2026 and was promoted as a mad, crazy entertainer with a mix of satire, spoof, and heart. With names like JD Chakravarthy, Faria Abdullah, Sree Vishnu, and Subhalekha Sudhakar in the cast, the film promised a blend of new-age humor and nostalgia.

Plot

The story follows Darahas, played by Tharun Bhascker, a youngster with big dreams. His plan to go to the US falls apart, and that shakes his life. He meets YouTuber Shalini, played by Faria Abdullah, through a matchmaking setup and they decide to marry. Soon Shalini learns that her father, IG Vijayakanth played by Subhalekha Sudhakar, shares a long past with Darahas. When she asks about it, Vijayakanth starts telling the story of Darahas, his link to gangster Brutal Dharma played by JD Chakravarthy, and a strange plan to take revenge on US President Donald Trump.

The film moves between love, family, gangster drama, and wild satire. Other key people include Gayatri played by Maanasa Choudhary, black magic practitioner Bhairava Das played by Sree Vishnu, ACP Ashok Vardhan played by Harsha Vardhan, and Darahas’ friend played by Vishnu Oi. The plot is intentionally crazy and tries to mix real-world politics with Tollywood-style masala and spoof.

Performances

Tharun Bhascker as Darahas is the soul of Gaayapadda Simham. He brings a natural ease to the role and makes even the most bizarre situations feel grounded. His comic timing is sharp, and he knows when to underplay and when to go full mad. He holds the film together in both funny and emotional bits.

Director Kashyap Sreenivas also acts as Darahas’ friend and he is a surprise package. He has a full-length role and does not look like a debut actor at all. His chemistry with Tharun feels real, like two buddies from college. He gets good laugh moments and handles them with confidence.

Faria Abdullah as Shalini is lively and looks great on screen. Though her role is not very long, she brings freshness to every scene she is in. Her scenes with Tharun have a cute, modern vibe. Maanasa Choudhary as Gayatri is sweet and fits the part of the girl who drives Darahas’ decisions.

Sree Vishnu in a powerful cameo as Bhairava Das is one of the film’s delights. His entry is styled well and he brings instant energy. He plays the black magic practitioner with a mix of menace and comedy, and his scenes work big time. JD Chakravarthy as Brutal Dharma has a stylish presence. Even with limited time, he gives the gangster role a cool, retro feel that viewers will enjoy. Subhalekha Sudhakar as IG Vijayakanth brings class and weight. Harsha Vardhan, Vishnu Oi, and Inturi Vasu support well and keep the comic tone alive. The cast clearly had fun, and that fun reached the audience.

Analysis

The first half of Gaayapadda Simham takes its time to set the world. We meet Darahas, see his US dream, his love story, and his clash with the system. The pace is easy and allows the characters to breathe. The humor here is situational and comes from Tharun’s reactions to the madness around him. The matchmaking track with Faria Abdullah is cute and modern. The moment IG Vijayakanth starts narrating the past, the film shifts gears. The entry of Brutal Dharma and the Donald Trump revenge angle sound wild, but that is the film’s point. It wants to be wacky. Sree Vishnu’s track as Bhairava Das gives the first half a high. His peculiar family setup and rituals bring genuine laughs. By interval, the film promises that the real chaos is yet to come.

The second half goes all in on spoof and parody. This is where the film shows its true color. It takes digs at KGF style storytelling and Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, and if you enjoy meta cinema, you will smile. The film does not take itself seriously, and that is its strength. Some gags land well, especially the ones involving Tharun and Kashyap Sreenivas. The film tries to tie the political satire with the gangster drama, and while it is not airtight, it is entertaining. The energy dips in a few places, but the cast keeps it afloat. The climax wraps up the threads with a spoofy tone. It is not a heavy ending, and it matches the film’s goofy nature.

On the technical side, Gaayapadda Simham looks neat. Vidya Sagar Chinta’s cinematography captures the 90s mood in parts and gives the film a warm tone. The frames are colorful and suit a comedy drama. Sweekar Agasthi’s music is easy on the ears. The songs are placed well and the background score supports the satire without going overboard. Editing by Viplab Nyshadham keeps most scenes crisp, though a tighter cut in the second half would help the pace. Production values are good for the scale, and the team creates a believable world despite the crazy plot. Director Kashyap Sreenivas shows promise. He picks a very tough genre where tone is everything. He succeeds in making us laugh in several places and deserves credit for thinking differently. His dialogues have wit, and when the spoof works, it really works.

Rating: 3/5

Bottom-line: Tharun Bhascker Leads a Quirky, Fun-Filled Ride
