Mega Prince Varun Tej who is known for his knack of choosing different yet commercially viable scripts is once again coming with a rare genre in Telugu, a sports action drama ‘Ghani’ which is slated to hit the screens on April 8th. Here’s what Varun Tej speaks about the film and many more.

About Director Kiran Korrapati

I knew Kiran from ‘Mister’ days. He worked as the co-director for that film. I suggested his name for Tholi Prema. During the making, I understood that he has solid talent. It was my idea to do a sports drama and Kiran developed the story.

About Choosing A Sports Based Film

There are a lot of sports films in Hollywood and Bollywood. I feel Telugu cinema doesn’t make sports films to a good degree. We have to explore the genre. That’s why I suggested to Kiran that he should debut with a sports actioner. And that’s how ‘Ghani’ happened.

About Boxing Training

I went to the US to learn the basic techniques of boxing. I trained with an Indian professional boxer for close to a year and a half. I thought playing a boxer would be easy but understood the hardships only when I started working out. You have to use both hands. It was physically exhausting. I had to maintain my physique.

Learning Experience

Maintaining discipline in life is the most important thing. After working on this film, I changed my personal lifestyle as well and am more sorted out now.

About Working With Upendra And Suniel Shetty

I have grown up watching his films but never met him in real. When I met him for the first time, I was in awe. He is soft-spoken and speaks with others so respectfully. But the way he spoke to me and used to call me Varun Garu shocked me. I learned a lot from him during the making. He will shock you with his role in the film.

Suniel Shetty garu’s character had to be played by a North Indian. That’s why he was roped in. He was not roped in to make ‘Ghani’ sound pan-India. Naveen Chandra and others were chosen for the same reason. Kiran felt a newcomer should be cast as the heroine. That’s why Sairee Manjrekar was chosen, not a star heroine.

About Ghani

‘Ghani’ is an actioner but, the emotional undercurrent in ‘Ghani’ is strong. Mother sentiment has a significant place. The story essentially revolves around six characters. Each character shows something unique.

About ‘Pushpa’ ‘RRR’ Pan India’s Success

I am happy that ‘Pushpa’ and ‘RRR’ have become pan-India hits. I am happy both as a member of the Mega family and a film actor. It makes us proud when our films become pan-India hits.

About Future Projects

F3 will release on May 27 and will be a good hit.  I have signed a film with Praveen Sattaru which is an out-and-out action drama. It will go on floors from May. There is also one more film with Kiran Korrapati that is being scripted as of now.

About Multi-starrers

I like to do a multi-starrer especially if it is with Sai Dharam Tej and/or Nithiin.
