Kobbari Matta Is a Very Special Film in My Career; We Are Re-Releasing It on the 14th for Sampu – Writer and Producer Sai Rajesh
The hilarious entertainer “Kobbari Matta”, scripted and produced by Sai Rajesh, made audiences laugh and went on to become a successful film. Starring Sampoornesh Babu in the lead role, the film is set for a re-release on the 14th of this month.
Presented by Vallamsetla Krishna Rao, the film was produced by Sai Rajesh under the Amrutha Productions banner. Ishika Singh, Geethanjali and Shakeela played key roles. Released on August 10, 2019, “Kobbari Matta” entertained audiences throughout and emerged as a good success. Ahead of its re-release, the team organised a press meet today.
Writer and producer Sai Rajesh said, “Kobbari Matta is a very special film in my career. We faced several challenges while making this movie, including financial difficulties. The four years of hard work finally paid off on August 10, the day the film was released, with the matinee and first shows bringing us the result we had hoped for. The success gave us immense confidence, courage and happiness. That day, we truly understood the power of cinema and gained the confidence that we could continue making more films.
“Although the successes of Baby and Chennai Love Story made me happy, the success of Kobbari Matta is something I will never forget. After introducing Sampoornesh through Hrudaya Kaleyam, Kobbari Matta became our second film together. While working with Sampu, we experimented with several new ideas in the writing. I wrote lengthy dialogues, including two-minute and even three-minute non-stop sequences, and Sampu performed them brilliantly. Even today, the film’s dialogues continue to go viral on social media. We never imagined back then that they would remain this popular even after so many years.
“People have been asking us to re-release Kobbari Matta for a long time. For our Sampu, we are bringing the film back to theatres on the 14th of this month, in a limited number of theatres. We want to revisit the struggles we went through and relive those memories on the big screen. We hope to make audiences laugh once again through this film.
“The shooting of the Hindi version of Baby will begin in another 15 to 20 days. After that, I will work on a Telugu film. The story for that project is already ready.”
Hero Sampoornesh Babu said, “Sai Rajesh anna made me play three different characters in this film. He also made me deliver a massive dialogue that runs for three minutes and 20 seconds. Even after all these years, many people still call me and say how much they love Kobbari Matta. It is Sai Rajesh anna’s writing that has made this film so memorable for everyone.
“As Sai Rajesh anna mentioned, we faced many problems while making this film. There were times when we did not even know when the shooting would take place. But the success of the film made us forget all those struggles. Many people have been requesting me to bring Kobbari Matta back to theatres. When I discussed the idea with Sai Rajesh anna, he said we should choose a good date for the re-release. We finally fixed the 14th of this month. I request everyone to watch and enjoy our film at a theatre near you. I also hope that Sai Rajesh anna and I will definitely work together on another film.”
Heroine Ishika Singh said, “During the shoot, a senior actor once asked whether this film would even get released. That one question itself gives you an idea of the situation we were in at the time. Despite all the challenges, Sai Rajesh stood strong and fought hard to make this film happen. Today, he gets financial support and stars are willing to listen to his stories, but the situation was very different back then.
“Sai Rajesh, Sampu and the rest of us worked on this film purely out of our passion for cinema. Even today, our bond remains the same. Although we may not meet frequently, whenever any one of us faces a problem, we call and check on each other. That friendship continues to remain strong. Despite achieving success, Sai Rajesh and Sampu have not changed at all. They are still the same people they were back then.”
