Maargan, directed by Leo John Paul and starring Vijay Antony, is an investigative thriller that explores the supernatural elements along with scifi aspects. The film has released its first six minutes prior to its release which raised curiosity among the audiences. Maargan released in theatres today, June 27. Let’s check-out the review.
Plot
The story begins with the murder of a young woman named Ramya, which sparks ADGP Dhruv’s (Vijay Antony) interest and leads him to get transferred to investigate the case. As Dhruv digs deeper, he encounters a series of bizarre events and supernatural occurrences that are connected to swimmer D. Aravind (Ajay Dhishan) and other characters. As the investigation proceeds it leads to startling revelations, and how it ends forms the rest of the story.
Performances
Vijay Antony delivers a good performance as serious police officer who means business, carrying the intensity of the investigation on screen with subtle mannerisms and expressions. Ajay Dhishan, on his debut, does well in the role of a person with supernatural powers, showing variations in his role and mannerisms. Brigida Saga is impressive and natural as Vijay Antony’s assistant cop.

Analysis
The film’s narration starts well, establishing a unique backdrop for Ajay Dhishan’s character which throws a lot of surprises. The director Leo John Paul attempts to explore the thriller from the supernatural elements of ancient sages, which is quite intriguing. The second half also starts well but, the film’s second part in the second half along with climax feels rushed, and the message hasn’t been properly conveyed. With some fine-tuning of the script and screenplay in later parts, the film could have been more engaging.
With an interesting setup and engaging for most of the part, Maargan manages to be a decent thriller with twists and turns at regular intervals. BGM by Vijay Antony’s performance and the cinematography by Yuva are highlights, the film’s advantages outweigh its drawbacks, making it a compelling thriller.
