Mammootty’s Mass Character Introduction in ‘OM: Chapter 1 – Udhiram’! Birthday Special Video Released
With anticipation surrounding ‘OM: Chapter 1 – Udhiram’, the upcoming film starring Dhanush and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, growing day by day, the makers have released a special character-introduction video featuring Mammootty on the occasion of his birthday. Mammootty is introduced as ‘Burma Karthikeyan’, an international smuggler, in a stylish, mass-packed and classy avatar.
Produced jointly by Wunderbar Films and R Take Studios, the film stars Dhanush, Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela, Indrans, Naseeruddin Shah and Chaitu Jonnalagadda in prominent roles. Written and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, the film marks his next venture after the success of ‘Amaran’. Mammootty plays a pivotal role as Karthikeyan, while Dhanush leads the film alongside Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela.
The character-introduction video opens against the backdrop of Interpol in Dubai, with an investigation underway to track down a highly wanted criminal and the head of an international crime network. The investigation subsequently extends to India, where authorities begin searching for the leader of a major criminal network.
During the investigation, a police officer asks, “Karthikeyan engada?”, and Mammootty’s face is revealed for the first time. As he walks in with an imposing presence and receives a salute from a police officer, the scene hints at the power and influence his character commands.
The video then features several mass moments that offer glimpses into Karthikeyan’s background and activities. One of the standout dialogues describes his nature as a smuggler: “Kadathalkaran thaane… avlo thangamana aal illa. Sembu kalandha 24 gram thangamnu vena sollalaam.” The dialogue adds further intrigue to his character.
Mammootty’s look is one of the biggest highlights of the video. He appears in a stylish and commanding avatar unlike anything fans have seen from him in recent times. His walk, expressions and body language add tremendous style and intensity to the character.
Rather than revealing Karthikeyan’s complete backstory, the video deliberately leaves audiences curious about who he really is, his criminal past and his international connections. With references to an Interpol investigation, international smuggling and a massive crime network, the glimpse makes it clear that ‘OM: Chapter 1 – Udhiram’ is shaping up as a grand-scale action thriller.
Director Rajkumar Periasamy, who gained nationwide attention with ‘Amaran’, is now set to explore a larger-scale action world with an intriguing screenplay. The film marks the first collaboration between Dhanush and Rajkumar Periasamy, while the combination of Dhanush and Mammootty adds another major layer of anticipation.
The film’s technical team includes Rajeevan as Production Designer, A. Panner Selvam as Art Director, Ezhil Arasu K. as Director of Photography and R. Kalaivanan as Editor. Sai Abhyankkar has composed the music.
Yannick Ben and Kaecha Kampakdee are credited for the action choreography, while Sandy handles choreography. Kavya Sriram is the Costume Designer, B. Raja is the Makeup Artist, and Nagu is credited for costumes. Sachin Sudhakaran and Hari Haran are the Sound Designers, with Kannan Ganpat handling the Sound Mixing. Shyam PM is the VFX Supervisor.
The film is produced by Dhanush, Shraddha Agrawal and Azmat Jagmag, with Sreyas Srinivasan and Sandesh Agrawal as Co-Producers and Vishu Ramaswamy as Creative Producer. The film is backed by Wunderbar Films and R Take Studios.
