Plot
The story revolves around Subbu (Anupama Parameswaran), a young girl who is engaged to Rajesh (Rag Mayur) in a village where a shocking tradition is followed due to the fear of attracting the wrath of Goddess Jwalamma. When Subbu’s character is questioned, she must navigate the complexities of village customs and traditions to protect herself and the village.
Performances
Anupama Parameswaran delivers a spirited performance, expressing herself through her eyes and conveying the pain of a woman in trouble. Darshana Rajendran makes a powerful debut, and Sangeetha Krish makes her presence felt with variations in her performance. Rag Mayur is good as a sincere lover crushed between love and village traditions. Others played according to their roles.

Analysis
The film attempts to highlight the struggles of women in a patriarchal society in an effective manner. The first half treads at a slow pace at times, while the second half touches various issues. The story had potential, and delivered it in an impactful and intense manner. Despite having some roadblocks in the form of a familiar Plot, The director’s attempt to highlight the struggles of women in a patriarchal society is commendable.
Praveen Kandregula’s direction is impressive, and the screenplay could have been better. Gopi Sundar’s music and songs are situational, with the “Yatra Naryasthu” song being a highlight. Mridul Sujit Sen’s cinematography showcases the locations beautifully, while the editing by Dharmendra Kakarala leaves a lot to be desired.
Considering the film’s potential and Anupama Parameswaran’s spirited performance, Paradha turns out to be a decently made female oriented flick. With some fine tuning of the script and story, the film could have been more impactful. Paradha is a film that attempts to champion the cause of women empowerment and upliftment.
