Raakaasaa is a horror-comedy adventure film produced by Niharika Konidela under Pink Elephant Pictures, blending ancient folklore with modern themes. The story revolves around Veera Babu, played by Sangeeth Sobhan, who becomes entangled in a centuries-old legend involving a mysterious entity called Rakasa.
Plot
The village of Rakasapuram was decimated by a plague two millennia ago, leading the king to strike a deal with Rakasa, requiring a human sacrifice every 500 years. Veera Babu, an NRI returning from the USA, inadvertently becomes the prey as he wanders into the forbidden territory of the old fort. The film explores his chaotic fight for survival with Subbalakshmi (Nayan Sarika), Balu (Getup Srinu), and Soma’s (VennelaKishore) help.
Performances
Sangeeth Sobhan shines as Veera Babu, carrying the film’s energy with his comedic edge. His effortless comedy timing and scenes with Getup.Srinu and Vennela Kishore are hilarious. Nayan Sarika is impressive as Subbalakshmi, bringing sincerity and depth to her role. Vennela Kishore in the secomd half is major highlight, injecting humor into the narrative. The supporting cast, including Thanikella Bharani and Ashish Vidyarthi, is reliable but underutilized. Getup Srinu comedy timing could have been better, it feels forced at times and even went overboard.

Analysis
The first half is fun, though with generic dialogue it generates laughs due to Sangeeth Sobhan’s energy and timing. However, the story unfolds in the second half with more fun, thanks to the chemistry between Sangeeth Sobhan and Vennela Kishore. The creature design and atmosphere are well realized, given the budget constraints. Production values are adequate.
Technically, the film is sound, with impressive VFX and a decent background score. The cinematography is a major plus, capturing the night-effect sequences crisply.The editing keeps the runtime tight, preventing the film from feeling overlong. Overall, Raakaasaa is a enjoyable with a neat blend of fun and horror elements in a folk story with an impressive climax.
