Secret Soldier directed by Akki Viswanadha Reddy has been one of the talked about espionage thrillers of the year. Earlier titled as China Piece, the film faced censor hurdles and even went up to the CBFC Chairman and Ministry of External Affairs, which only increased curiosity around it. Now releasing on 18th Sep 2026 with a new title, the film arrives with buzz for its bold premise of national security, satellite warfare and hidden enemies.
Plot
Secret Soldier revolves around a shocking security breach. Indian security agencies discover that the Human Shield protecting their satellites has been disabled, leaving the nation vulnerable to Pakistan and China. Chief officer Param (Kamal Kamaraju) goes on high alert and sets his team to trace the breach. The trail leads to an innocent youngster Mariyamvali Nihal Kodhaty and his close circle. How is Mariyamvali connected to this high level cyber espionage? What is the role of his friend Prudhvi (Surya Srinivas), agents Sarah, Sheetal, Kanika Kapoor, Bhakthal, Alina Raj, Ashok Mithran and Inspector Ranjith Kumar? The screenplay unfolds layer by layer connecting personal lives to national security in an intriguing manner.
Performances
Nihal Kodhaty as Mariyamvali is impressive. He carries the innocence, confusion and inner strength of a common man caught in an uncommon crisis with great subtlety. His emotional graph is convincing and relatable. Surya Srinivas as Prudhvi is a revelation and the true scene stealer of the film. He is absolutely brilliant. He brings effortless charm and perfect comic timing in the early portions and then seamlessly transitions into a mature, emotionally intense and loyal friend. Surya Srinivas proves he is a talent to watch out for and carries some of the most important moments with remarkable ease.
Harshitha Rao as Sarah is outstanding. She is elegant, fierce and extremely intelligent as a security agent. She brings grace and grit in equal measure, handling action and emotional scenes with commendable confidence.
Director Akki Viswanadha Reddy deserves special applause for envisioning such a complex subject and extracting strong performances. Kamal Kamaraju as Param is powerful and authoritative. Sireesha Nulu, Deeksha Panth, Vamshi Nekkanti, Mariyum, Srikanth Iyengar, Abhishek Reddy, Srinivas Vadlamani, Vinod Sagar and others are all perfectly cast and add authenticity to the world of Secret Soldier.

Analysis
The first half of Secret Soldier starts on a very promising and gripping note. Director Akki Viswanadha Reddy sets up the satellite breach and the national threat very effectively, instantly hooking the audience. The introduction of Mariyamvali and his friendship with Prudhvi brings a refreshing human touch to the spy genre. The interval block is well designed, connecting the dots and raising the stakes high for the second half. The second half moves into a more intense and patriotic zone with multiple twists, emotional revelations and a satisfying resolution that keeps you invested. Akki Viswanadha Reddy smartly balances friendship, suspense and nationalism without losing focus.
On the technical front, the film is top class. Suresh Ragutu’s cinematography is rich and realistic, capturing both the intimate moments and grand security establishments with excellent colour palette and angles. Karthik Rodriguez’s background score is a major asset, elevating the tension and patriotic fervour to the next level. The editing by Marthand K Venkatesh keeps the narrative racy, dialogues are sharp and production values are grand. On the downside certain technical words used may not understabdable to all and also feels overcrowding of actors at times. Overall, Secret Soldier is a sincere, gripping and relevant spy thriller.
