Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film, Thalaivi is a most-awaited biopic on former Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa under the direction of A.L. Vijay. As per the latest buzz, the makers have roped in versatile actor Prakash Raj to play the role of Karunanidhi in the film.
Prakash Raj is also excited to play the DMK leader and chief minister of Tamil Nadu. “When we approached Prakash Raj for the part, he reminded us that he played Karunanidhi 22 years back in Mani Ratnam’s movie ‘Iruvar'” said Producer of the film, Vishnu Induri. “Karunanidhi sir is a legend. There is always a great aura around him. As we needed an actor with great screen presence, we couldn’t think of any other actor other than Prakash Raj,” added Vishnu Induri. He added that they want to stay true to Karunanidhi’s real-life character.
We already know that things are not good between Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi. So, when asked if Prakash Raj’s role will have a grey-shaded role, the producer stated that they are only recreating history but will not tamper it.
