Plot:
The film’s story revolves around brother-sister bonding and how strong their relationship will be when different difficult situations try to rock them in their lives. Jay (Nithiin), an aspiring archer, is confident of winning gold for India despite being unable to hit the bull’s eye. He finds he has been distracting due to his elder sister Jhansi (Laya) who has been distancing from her family after her marriage. Jai decides to make things right with his sister but finds her in a dreaded situation. How he saved her along with her family and her promise forms the rest of the story.
Performances:
Nithiin played the role tailor-made for him, showing sincerity and carrying his character with ease. He has shown conviction in both action and emotional scenes. Varsha Bollamma did well in her role of Nithiin’s friend. Saptami Gowda’s role lacked substance, but Laya was good in her role as a woman in distress. Saurabh Sachdeva was okay in the role of the antagonist. Others like Awasika, Sreekanth Iyengar, Raja Sridhar, and Temper Vamshi are adequate in their roles. Director Sriram Venu’s daughter Dittya played a role and she emoted well.
Highlights:
Nithiin, Laya
Interesting setup
Good BGM
Impressive Cinematography
Action Sequences
Drawbacks:
Slow pace at times
Lacks engaging screenplay in parts
Missing Strong Emotions
Analysis:
‘Thammudu’ written and directed by Sriram Venu has an engaging plot, with a mix of action, thriller, and emotional elements. The film takes a different turn once the actual story begins, where it becomes more of a survival thriller than an emotional drama. The unique characterization of the villain generates interest, and the hard work by the cast and team is evident on screen. The film tried to deliver a different experience with commercial elements and succeed to some extent.
The film’s blend of action and emotions is well-executed, but the screenplay could have been more tightly laced with twists and turns to maintain consistency. The brother-sister emotions are highlighted in a proper manner, blending with thrilling action elements. Nithiin showed sincerity and carries his character with ease. Laya fits into her role aptly and delivers much needed depth.
Ajaneesh Loknath’s music is situational, elevating the scenes with his background music. K.V Guhan, Sameer Reddy, and Setu’s cinematography is impressive, adding value to the narration. Prawin Pudi’s editing could have been better, with some scenes slowing the pace of the narration. Dialogues are decent, and production values are grand. Altogether, “Thammudu” is a decent action thriller leaving room for improvement. With some fine-tuning, it could have delivered its full potential. “Thammudu” is a film that will appeal to fans of action thrillers
Rating: 3/5
Bottom-line: : A Decent Survival Action Thriller
