Thalapathy Vijay as fans fondly call him is in terrific form in Whistle. It won’t be an overstatement to term the act as his career. The movie is out and out Vijay show. There is fun, dance, entertainment and emotion in a typical Vijay style that is sure to impress one and all.

Nayanthara is equally impressive in the time she gets. It is a crucial part irrespective of the length. She provides entertainment.

Predictable Story

Atlee has proved beyond a doubt with his last two outings that he is a pro when it comes to executing larger than life mass movies featuring a star. Whistle is no different and he kills it once again.

Right from the start, the visual extravaganza can’t be missed even if the proceedings resemble a regular commercial fare. It is this quality that makes Atlee a terrific mass movie maker.

At every turn, Atlee gives his star Vijay ample opportunity to make a positive impression. What’s more, there are superb variations to the lead character with undercurrent mass sensibility intact.

The first half is a regular mass entertainer with brief glimpses of sports backdrop. It lays the seed for the drama and conflict in the second half. But, before that happens there is a massive interval block where there is a mass overload.

The second half turns into a full-fledged sports drama with women empowerment messages from time to time. There is the usual action involving the star that is simultaneously in play. At times there is a little drag, but the star presence and visuals cover up for that.

Music by AR Rahman enhanced the grand vision of the director. Cinematography by Vishnu is top-class. Editing is decent. Special mention for Production design for mounting this film on a large scale. Mahesh S Koneru of East Coast Productions deserves appreciation for bringing the film in Telugu with neat dubbing.

Bottom-Line : Impressive Sports Based Commercial Entertainer

Rating : 3/5
