Analysis:

Atlee has proved beyond a doubt with his last two outings that he is a pro when it comes to executing larger than life mass movies featuring a star. Whistle is no different and he kills it once again.

Right from the start, the visual extravaganza can’t be missed even if the proceedings resemble a regular commercial fare. It is this quality that makes Atlee a terrific mass movie maker.

At every turn, Atlee gives his star Vijay ample opportunity to make a positive impression. What’s more, there are superb variations to the lead character with undercurrent mass sensibility intact.

The first half is a regular mass entertainer with brief glimpses of sports backdrop. It lays the seed for the drama and conflict in the second half. But, before that happens there is a massive interval block where there is a mass overload.

The second half turns into a full-fledged sports drama with women empowerment messages from time to time. There is the usual action involving the star that is simultaneously in play. At times there is a little drag, but the star presence and visuals cover up for that.

Music by AR Rahman enhanced the grand vision of the director. Cinematography by Vishnu is top-class. Editing is decent. Special mention for Production design for mounting this film on a large scale. Mahesh S Koneru of East Coast Productions deserves appreciation for bringing the film in Telugu with neat dubbing.

Bottom-Line : Impressive Sports Based Commercial Entertainer

Rating : 3/5
