Story :

Raju (Anand Deverakonda) who is from a poor family falls for Devaki aka Dorasani (Shivathmika Rajasekhar) and she too loves Raju. Dorasani’s father is a feudal lord in that area and knowing about their love he wants it to be ended. Whether Raju And Devaki united or not forms the rest of the story.

Performances:

Anand Deverakonda is superb in his debut outing. Very rarely do the actors get a role that helps them live it and Anand Deverakonda gets such a role in his debut itself. The actor showcases a sincerity and simplicity that is rare in today’s time. It is the reason why his part clicks with the audience instantly. Also, one can’t help but appreciate him for doing a bold scene in the second half without any inhibitions at all.

Shivathmika Rajasekhar is terrific in her first flick. It doesn’t look like a debut outing for her as she acts in a very experienced manner. There are many scenes which reflect and shows how mature a performer is present in her. The breakdown at the police station stands out and is sure to tug one’s heart. Of course, that is not the only part, and there are a few other lovely moments, which shows her vulnerability as well. It is an all-around character that provides us with a glimpse of various shades of the actress.

The rest of the film is filled with different artists who are not seen usually in Telugu cinema but fit the various parts exceptionally well. They all look raw and real and bring great authenticity to the milieu.

Analysis:

If one only looks at the basic story of Dorasani, it is very simple and routine. We have seen it many times and know what will be on offer. However, what makes Dorasani different from those outings or other typical stories is the vision and direction of KVR Mahendra.

TThe romance is the backdrop of revolution where the former affects the latter is subtly and effectively put out by KVR Mahendra. The romantic portions especially are a delight even though they are predictable in nature and might appear to be stagnating the story.

KVR Mahendra wonderfully captures the beautiful moments between Raju and Devika. The poetic touch with which they are presented will surely make one’s heart warm with emotions. The songs and the background score further give them energy and momentum.

The first half is almost catering to this budding romance with an invisible sword of the ‘Dora’ lurking behind. We get a feeling of something sinister on the way, and that is what is in store in the second half of the love story.

The revolution and ‘Dora’ pride takes over in the second half, which is filled with hard-hitting emotional blocks. The whole thing is shot as realistically as possible without crossing the line. There is a restraint shown that makes very uneasy moments to be consumed easily without flinching. It is a directorial talent that deserves to be appreciated.

After all that has happened, the climax is very much on expected lines. But, it is the way it is delivered that makes it work. It is sure to give people a shocking experience even though they are prepared for it.

The music and background score are of great importance in a love story. Prasanth Vihari has done extraordinary work in this area. It is haunting. The cinematography Sunny Kurapati is brilliant. It gives the movie a unique feel with its realistic touch. Navin Nooli weaves his magic with editing in the way he keeps the core emotional flow intact. The dialogues are excellent, giving a feel of the time and era gone by.

The producers Mahdura Shreedhar Reddy and Yash Rangineni deserve special mention for backing a hard-hitting and emotional content like Dorasani. The production values are terrific. Films like these come very rarely and need all the support it can get.

Bottom-line: Charming And Heart Touching Love Tale

Rating: 3/5
